LYTTELTON'S CLAIMS
TRANS-TASMAN BASE F LY I NG - BOAT FA UI I , I TI ES (Par Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Pointing out that facilities at Lyttelton for flying-boats were better than either those at Auckland or Wellington, a strong claim for the establishment of an airport at the former place as part of lire transTasman service, was advanced by Mr. R. E. Cairns, at a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board to-day. On his motion, the board decided to bring under the notice of the Government, through the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, the representations it made in February regarding its claims to have an airport. Lyttelton was more suitable as there were no tropical winds ojr high seas experienced in the harbour and, in addition, the prevailing 1 wind was from the east, an advantage for both landing and taking oil, said Mr. Cairns. He urged members to bring the matter before other local bodies so that a combined case could be presented U) the Government.
