FINAL ROUND
RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP OPENING GAMES TO-DAY SELECTOR ON SIDELINES The opening games of the final championship round were piajed by senior rvtigby reams under the auspices of the Poverty nay union touay, and interest in the match on the grandstand ground transcended that, shown in any previous game of the season. This was the engagement between Old Boy's and Celtic, and public expectation of a fast and hard-fought game seemed liKeiy to be reau-«'u Celtic have held the lead in the championship for the past thr'-t weeks, and the possibility of Old Boys defeating them, as they defeated H.5..0.8. a fortnight ago, and Marist last week, was the chief topic of discussion among Rugby “fans" in the district; during the past few days. To add to the interest, there was the knowledge that the Hawkes Bay union would send its best representative team to Gisborne next week, and and that the Poverty Bay selector, Mr. T. French, was on the sidelines at the Oval to-day making his final choied of players to meet the visiting team. Early scores from the Oval were; — Juniors Marist A (5 v. High School 3. H. 5.0.8/ A 5 v. Marist B nil. Old" B 11 v. Old Boys A nil. * Advice has been received by E. Grant, H. 5.0.8., and Poverty Bay senior Rugby player, of a postponement of his transfer to the Bryn Avon School, North Auckland district, until the end of the school term. Thus he will be available to play for his club and district until late in August.
