COUNCIL DISAPPOINTED
MINISTER’S ATTITUDE WAIROA RIVER EROSION (Special to tin- Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Advice to the ellcct that it was not possible to send an engineer to Wairoa to investigate the position regarding river erosion but that he had received a report from the local engineer, was received from the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, at a meeting on Friday evening of the Wairoa Borough Council. The Minister staled in his letter that, i! thi- luc,-;i| bodies were willing to make a substantial contribution towards the work of preventing further river erosion he would see what the Government would do in the way of assistance. When the council submitted the estimated cost of the work and the sucDort forthcoming from the local bodies he
would place the matter belore the Cabinet. • The Mayor; Mr. H. L. Barker, said that the matter of river erosion in Wairoa was outside the possibilities of the borough. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. llarlter, that the letter from the Minister be forwarded to the Wairoa Harbour Board and that a letter be sent to the Minister stating that the council was very disappointed with the attitude adopted.
