RABBIT CONTROL

EAST COAST BOARD MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board was held m Gisborne to-day, when reports were received from the board's two inspectors concerning the control oi the pest in various parts of the territory.

Northern Section

Mr. 11. A. Burgess, inspector at Whakatanc, reported that since his last report the following blocks of country had been worked. —Ohivva, sandhills Thornton-Whakatanc, Te Teko, Omataora, Waiohau, Galatea district, Murupara, Pounaua, and Te Whaiti.

On looking over the native land.-., between Whakatanc and Ohiwa, an odd sign was found and since then one rabbit had been caught. While the rabbiter was working the sandhills eight rabbits were caught and since then no further signs had been found. There were no fresh signs in Te Toko country, the river flats, or Omataora. At Waiohau signs were found on the property ol' Messrs. Baird and Orr and on the terraces above the pa, where four rabbits were caught.

On his last inspection of Te Houlii and Kopuriki no fresh signs had been found, out one rabbit had been killed on Te Houhi just prior to that date. He inspected a portion of the Galatea estate, where one rabbit was caught behind the homestead. An odd sign was found near the Rangitaiki River bridge on the Murupara estate and two rabbits were killed. No traces could be seen on Pounaua and Matera lands, although one rabbit was caught on the road at Pounaua. No signs were found in Te Whaiti district. Rabbits were caught in June as follows: —Whakatanc 1, sandhills 8, Waiohau 4, Te Houlii 1, Galatea estate 1, Murupara 2, Pounaua 1: total 18. Wairoa District Reporting from Wairoa, the subinspector, Mr. T. It. England, stated that the stations of Messrs. Glendinning, McKinnon Bros. (Stratholm), N. McKay, W. and F. Mogl'ord, and N. McKinnon, and the Waihuu native lands were amongst tile places that had been worked and found clean. On the Mohaka native lands one

rabbit was caught, but no signs were found on the Mohaka and Putere Crown lands. Part of Maungatanawha was worked and found clean, while no fresh signs were found on Putere. Nothing was seen on the properties of Messrs. Richardson Bros. (Patunamu), Rnmlose, Gamble, or Ruapapa station.

Two rabbits were caught on the Bold Hills at Wairekn station, but no signs were found on the river faces. I’ho stations of Messrs. A. C. deLautcur and P. Sainsbury were found -lean, as was the back portion of Waihi station, Waikatca, Pihunga and Ruakituri.

Nothing was seen on Wahanui station, nor on Maungaruhe. In May one rabbit was caught on Te Hoe station, but notiiing was caught at Ngatapa, •or the Ngatapa native country. Mr. England inspected part of the Mohaka Crown and native lands and Otoi. without discovering any fresli signs. The weather blocked him from covering the back portion of Waireka as the tracks had been washed away. A rabbit was caught in the Wairoa cemetery and since then no fresh signs had been seen in the locality. From the Wairoa Heads and along the beach to Whakarnahin there were no fresh traces. Last month rabbits were killed at the following places:—Wairoa 1; Waireka 2, Mohaka native lands !; total
