From lite surplus profits of the , CSOOO alluvial gold art unions con- ' ducted in New Zealand for the relict of distress, the sum of £8875 is being j distributed by the Government as ft special allocation to help the work of a number of philanthropic institutions in the Dominion. [ In announcing the allocation, the - Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. K. Parry, explained that it was usual for th.e Government to make two allocations a year apart from the £SOOO paid into the mayoral relief funds, and the sum to be distributed was the first to hi' made this year.
