Roebuck Road Hoarding
Sir, —our traffic official lias been reported in a recent edition of your paper as saying that the Roebuck road hoarding is the most dangerous in the borough. He is supported by our worthy Mayor and councillors, who agree that no further permit should be granted. The said hoarding to my knowledge was erected many years ago. It 'has not obstructed any public view, or been the cause of any accidents. It is a pity that such a hoarding, which always boars a moral and spiritual message to the community, should be banned from its present position. Such messages from God’s Holy Word, as this hoarding lias been used for and not for private gain, have done much to lift men and women to a higher moral and spiritual life in the community. We see such happenings as are revealed in the McMillan report on abortion, and Dr. O'Brien’s reported address, that in 12 years New Zealand was 120,000 babies short, and our previous Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe’s, public statement that for one,-third of the children born in New Zealand, marriages had to take place. Our city fathers do not think such a hoarding, that brings messages for the welfare of man, should remain. Such principles as this hoarding is used for, have helped to build the British Empire and millions of people have obtained spiritual life. To be refused its license means a further step in our march through degeneracy to national destruction, while other hoardings advertising whisky and pictures are allowed to-remain.—Yours, etc., SIGNS OF THE TIMES.
