ADDRESS IN PUHA

NATIONAL CANDIDATE ATTENTIVE HEARING (Hnrahl Correspondent.) There was an attendance of about 100 at the Puha Hall on Friday night to hear Mr. W. Sullivan, the National Party’s candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat. The speaker received a most attentive and appreciative hearing, being applauded frequently as he made his points. The candidate directed the first portion of his address to explaining, in his opinion, the failure of the Government to carry out its election promises and the manner in which, instead, it had progressed along the road to the socialisation of industry and the wide power which its legislation had placed in the hands of Ministers.

Mr. Sullivan gave an example from his own experience to show that the wage-earners themselves had not benefited to the extent that many believed, that industry had been badly hampered, and that many small operators had been licensed out of business and trade concentrated in the hands of a few large concerns, thus, paving the way to the ultimategoal of nationalisation. The speaker concluded by laying down the main points of the National Party’s platform and appealed for the support of all those who had the best interests of the country at heart. At the conclusion of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate was moved by Mr. B. Fitzgerald, seconded by Mr. H. IT. Dods, and carried unanimously.
