MEN’S CLUB GAMES

TWO BIG MARGINS CALEDONIAN AND Y.M.C.A. END OF FIRST ROUND Men’s club games were continued on the Childers Road Reserve on Saturday. The two A grade matches were very ragged, and resulted in wims by the two leading teams by 'big margins. Results: — Senior A Grade Caledonian 5, Muriwai nil. YJM.C.A. A 5. Foresters nil. Senior B Grade YJM.C.A. B 4. Wesleyan 2. Waituhi 2, Y.M.C.A. C nil. POSITIONS OF TEAMS The teams are now in the following positions:—

SECOND HALF FAILURE Y.M.C.A, A 5 goals, Foresters nil. Y.M.C.A. A beat Foresters by five goals to nil in a scratchy game. The score at half-time was one-nil in favour of Y.M.C.A. They increased the score shortly after the interval, but from then on Foresters showed better form, missing a number of good opportunities by inaccurate shooting. One ■shot hit the post. Towards the close, however, the Foresters’ defence failed Jo hold.’ and Y.M.C.A. ran on three ■quick goals. The Y.M.C.A. team did not work as well as usual early in the game, and the halves, usually a splendid trio, did not give the forwards as many opportunities as they might have had. The forwards, too, seldom got going properly, Ron Jones, left wing, being one of the few to show true form. Stacey played one of his best games at fullback. He was partnered by V. Davey, in the absence of Lytrsky, Davey performing well, and had it not been for the sound work of the full-backs Foresters might have got through several times.

Foresters were unfortunate in losing McTavish soon after the start, but Nor- | ris and Gordon carried on very well in . the fullback position. Graham kept thq goal well, but was wasted in that position, more particularly as he had ’ been showing good form in the forwards, which on Saturday were weak. Wilson got through a lot of hard work, but his shooting and placing of passes lacked judgment. The halves were not as good as usual, but Eltringham kept up to form. Paki Jones scored three of the Y.M.C.A. goals, including one from a penalty bull, and the other two were scored by B. and K. Harrison. The umpires were Messrs. R. Sur* gojior and 11. A. Armstrong. A SLOW START Caledonian 5 goals, Muriwai .... nil. After a slow start. Caledonian piled on the goals against Muriwai in the second spell, and won by five to nil. The first half ended with the score orily two-nil, but it was not long in the second spell before three more goals were scored. 'Muriwai made a good bid in the closing stages, but the Caledonian defence was too sound. Good work by the Caledonian halves kept their side on attack for the' greater part of the game, Douglas and Lowe feeding their forwards well with clever stickwork. The fullbacks, Miller and Ross, were again very sound The shooting of the forwards was not very accurate in the early stages, and the line did nOt work so well together as ki the past. McLean, left wing, had a lot of work to do, and he put ini some very good centres. A last year s junior, Watt, took his place in the team for the first time, and performed encouragingly, scoring two of the goals. Muriwai defended very well indeed. To Hau being the mainstay of the fullbacks, W. Baker doing some good work in the halves. The centre forward. D. Nepe, made some good openings, but was not well .supported. Watt and Slade scored two goals each for Caledonian and Harrison one , The umpires were Messrs. D. M. Gracie and W. Smiler.
