SALMON APPEAR
WEST COAST REPORT The appearance of quinnat salmon in McDonald’s Creek, near Waiho, in South Westland, has created considerable interest among sportsmen on the West Coast.
An inspection of the creek was made by members of the Westland Acclimatisation Society, and 57 fish were seen in the distance of about a mile. Some of the fish were dead, some were dying, and some were active, but all appeared to be spent fish. Several reeds in the spawning beds were examined and quinnat eggs were found.
The fish seen were estimated to weigh from Gib to 101 b, and information was received that further up the stream the fish were much larger and more plentiful.
