EXCELLENT NOMINATIONS SIX PRINCIPAL EVENTS 222 HORSES ENTERED By “Trenton.” Nominations for the principal events to be decided at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting in August showed a slight increase over last year’s figures. Following are the numbers engaged in the six chief events, with last year’s figures in parentheses:—Grand National Steeplechase, 31 (32): Winter Cup. f>2 (50); Beaufort Steeplechase. 34 (3G); Grand National Hurdles, 37 (29); Sydenham Hurdles, 32 (29); Lincoln Steeples. 3G (37). Total nominations, 222 (219). In both the Grand National Steeples and Hurdles the cream of the Dominion’s ’chasers and hurdlers are included. Previous winners of the Grand National Steeplechase in Nocturnus, Vaipeen (twice), and Royal Limond are nominated, while Jolly Beggar, twice winner of the Grand National Hurdles, is engaged in both. Last year's winner of the Hurdles, Co’ttingham. is absen t. The beat sprinters in the land have nominated for the Winter Cup together with a fair sprinkling of middle-dis-tance performers.
