INJURY TO SCHMELING

VERTEBRAE AFFECTED DISCLOSURE IN HOSPITAL NOW STRAPPED TO BED (Elec. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 24, 3 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 23. Examination in hospital by X-ray of the injuries sustained by the German boxer, Max Schmeling, who was yesterday defeated by Joe Louis in the fight for the heavyweight boxing championship, revealed two broken transverse processes on the left side of the spinal column under the kidneys. The transverse processes ore protruding segments of bone from the vertebrae.

The fighter has been strapped to bis bed and will be remaining there until July 2, after which he will be taken in an ambulance and placed aboard the Bremen to recuperate in Germany.

The fight receipts totalled £203,000. of which Louis will receive £64,200 and Schmeling £32,000.
