SCHOOL BUILDINGS
WORKS AUTHORISED £112,805 IN DISTRICT The following list of works authorised by the Hawke's Bay Education Board'totalling £112,805, was submitted in a report by the chairman, Mr. G. A. Maddison, at the latest board meeting:-
Public Schools.—Tokomaru Bay, new school; Dannevirke North, additions; Gisborne intermediate, new school; Hastings Central, new school; Maraekakaho, new school; Tutira, additions; Paparatu, new school; Mata, new school; Mangaruru to Waikoau, removal; Te Karaka, additions, dental clinic and manual training; Tolaga Bay, manual training; Rere, new school; Puketawa, new school; Waipawa, dental clinic; Waikatea, new residence; Nuhaka, new residence; Napier Girls' High School. Native Schools.—Hiruharama, additions, manual training; Wharekahika, two new rooms; Wai-o-matatini, residence removal and additions; Raupunga, new classroom and manual training, Whakaangiangi, additions; Mangatuna, additions to residence; Manutahi, two new rooms; Horoera, renovations; Te Araroa, school additions, residence additions, and manual training; Te Harota, new school and new residence.
Projected works of interest to the district include:—Wairoa secondary department, manual training building; Tolaga Bay, additional rooms and new residence; Gisborne High School, four additional class rooms and two additional laboratories; Rangitukia, manual training centre; Tikitiki, residence, additional classrooms and the manual training centre; Wharekahika, new residence; Tokomaru Bay, manual training centre.
It was decided to consider the possibility of acquiring a new site for the Tolaga Bay School, and to apply for an extension of the site. A new school at Paparatu of the pavilion open-air type was authorised by the department. It was decided to recommend to the department that the schools at Nos. 4 and 5 camps at Kopuawhara should be separate.
Applications to the department for a new sanitary system at Puna were agreed to. The secretary, Mr. W. L. Dunn, reported that the biennial election of new members would take place on July 20, nominations closing on June 29. In the Gisborne area, the following members retired by rotation: Mr. E. H. Baker, north ward, and Mr. T. A. Coleman, urban area.
