ROAD RACE FATALITY
DEATH OF CYCLIST COLLISION WITH CAR (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Fatal injuries were suffered by a cyclist, Norman Ross Sweetman, aged Ik, a son of Mr. C. Sweetman, of Epsom, ns a result of an accident .which occurred on Great North road while he was competing in a road race on Saturday afternoon. He was riding past the Waikumete cemetery when his machine collided with a motor car driven by Miss A. Wilson, of Mount Albert. The rider suffered a broken wrist, chest and head injuries. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital where lie died shortly after his admission. A member of the Manukau Cycling Club, he was one of 40 riders taking part in an open 13-mile road race between Avondale and Henderson, organised by the Auckland centre of the New- Zealand Amateur Cycling Association. This event was the second race in which he had ever competed. On the previous Saturday he took part in a club event which he won easily.
