KING’S CUP CONTEST WEST AUSTRALIA’S WIN (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Mnv 9. 9 n.m.) MELBOURNE, May 9. In the inter-State rowing champion l ' an Australian eight-oar race for the King’s ’Cup resulted:—Western Australia, 1: New South Wales, 2; Tasmania, 3. Western Australia’s thorough training and physical fitness counteractcr the polish of their rivals. Western Australia and New South Wales, from the start, forged ahead of the othev State crews. The winners had only i canvas to spare when passing th( finishing line, with four lengths be tween second and third. The time fo l the distance of 2£ miles was 14min 13sec.
The Australian amateur sculling championship was retained by C Pearce, New South Wales, who easily beat Purves, Victoria, and Ninham. South Australia.
