MAYOR’S BROTHER PASSES
MR. GEO, H. COLEMAN \YELLINGTON BUSINESSMAN LONG SUFFERING ENDED
Advice was received in Gisborne yesterday of the’ death in Wellington of Mr. George Henry Coleman, a well-known master plumber and a brother of Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., Mayor of Gisborne.
The late Mr. Coleman had been ill for some time, and though it was known that his chances of recovery were small, the end came much more quickly than had been expected. He passed away last evening.
Born in London, Mr. G. H. Coleman was taken by his parents to Australia while still an infant, and spent his boyhood and youth in Toowoomba, Queensland, where he served his time as a plumber. At the age of 20 years, he came to New Zealand, following the example of his brother, Mr. D. W. Coleman, and settled in Wellington. For a number of years he was a prominent figure in union circles, having been treasurer of the plumbers’ industrial organisation over a lengthy period. He then went into business with a partner, a tradesman of the same name but of no relationship, and their business, under the style of Coleman and Coleman, grew to be one of the more important in Wellington. Mr. G. H. Coleman served a term as president of the Master Plumbers’ Union of that city, and had been prominent upon the executive of that body.
He married in Welington, as a young man, and is survived by Mrs. Coleman and her twin sons, Messrs. Frank and George Coleman, and one daughter, Miss Joyce Coleman. Much sympathy will be extended to members of the family and to other relatives of the deceased.
