LIMIT TO BATTLESHIPS
AMERICAN INTENTION UP TO 35,000 TONS APPROVAL BY SENATE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. May 3, 3 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 2. The Senate has adopted an amendment to the Naval Bill tentatively limiting the displacement of battleships to 35,000 tons "unless the president determines, through consultations with other naval Powers, that that tonnage limitation is being exceeded."
Senator Vanderberg explained that this will prevent the United States from assuming the leadership in the world armament race.
