ESCAPE FROM MARIPOSA
PROHIBITED IM MIGRANT (Per Press Associution.) AUCKLAND, this day. An escape from the brig of the Mariposa was made yesterday afternoon by a man who was being deported from New South Wales as an alleged undesirable immigrant. The man's name was stated to be Walter Lawrence, an ex-member of the Mariposa's crew who had been allowed liberty while the vessel was at sea and may have obtained possession of a chisel with which the bolls and lock on the brig gate were cut. It was understood that a warrant for his arrest will be issued as he is a prohibited immigrant.
