MAILS AND TELEGRAPH EMERGENCY MEASURES MIST DELAYS PLANES
Mail and telegraph arrangments made to meet the emergency created by last week's damage to highways between Gisborne and Napier were holding up well to-day, despite the renewal of heavy rain, reported the chief postmaster at Gisborne. Mr. A. M. Robertson, this morning.
The usual dispatches of mail were made this morning, between Gisborne and Napier, and one of the Union Airways D.H. 86 machines plied between these termini according to schedule. The southbound Dragon plane from Gisborne did not proceed beyond Napier, owing to misty conditions over Hawke's Bay.
A machine which left Palmerston North yesterday for Gisborne, due here at 4 p.m. did not travel as far as Napier, owing to difficult atmospheric conditions, the pilot turning back to Milson aerodrome at Palmerston North. The plane reached Napier this morning, connecting with the Gisborne-Napier plane, and was i to return to Palmerston North again immediately conditions permitted. This machine was expected to make a further trip during the day, coming right through to Gisborne from Palmerston North.
Special telegraphic circuits arranged for communication between Gisborne and Napier were working satisfactorily this morning.
