FLOOD IN BOROUGH
DAMAGE AT KAITI HILL ROAD BADLY SCOURED The collapse of a concrete-lined drain, the washing away of culvert timbers, and the scouring out of the Kaiti Hill road were the main points of damage in the borough during the last flood reported upon by the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, .it last night's meeting of. the Gisborne Borough Council. "The recent heavy rains caused a good deal of damage to Kaiti Hill road," Mr, Thomas reported. It will be necessary to resheet with old metal about 15 chains of the road in addition to iilling and making good several places which have been scoured out badly.
"The sides of a concrete-lined drain between Ranfurly and Crawford roads collapsed during the period of heavy rain. Following the breaking away of the concrete sides, adjoining private properly slumped and in places carried away sections of corrugated iron and other types of fences.
"The replacing of concrete sides of drain and the repairing of damaged property will have lo be undertaken. "Sills and piles of the limber culvert at the intersection of dcLautour and Crawford roads were washed out of position, necessitating the closing of the culvert for a few days. Temporary repairs have been carried out to allow through traffic. "The estimated cost of reinstating these two structures has not been yet prepared,''
