WORKING OF ABATTOIR
PROPOSED CONTRACT PLAN NO CHANGE IN SYSTEM A mcetina of the Gisbornc Borough Council was held in committee Inst week to discuss a suggestion from the Master Butchers' Association that the slaughtering of stock nt the abattoirs should be undertaken by contract in lieu of the present day labour system. Other local bodies controlling abatnirs had been communicated with in regard to charges for slaughtering, and the replies received showed that the charges made in Gisborne compared favourably with most other n'nces. The council considered the TT-esent system satisfactory, and saw no reason to make a change. In regard to demands made by the Gisborne .District Freezing Works and Related Trades Employees' Industrial Union for a new agreement T"»rinfi the abattoir employees, the union was recommended to file an apolication for its claims to be heard by a Conciliation Council.
