AN EARLY WINNER

SON OF MR. STANDFAST DOMINION IMPORTATION. HALF-BROTHER TO BEAU PERE Cable information of exceptional interest to racing men has been received by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., from the British Bloodstock Agency Limited, to the efTecl that the recently imported sire, Mr. Standfast, who was at the stud in Ireland for two seasons, has this early in the season been credited with a winner. The performance of the two-year-old in question, Ever True, was apparently a striking one. He if the first runner that Mr. Standfast has had, and his win was apparently quite impressive. The race he accounted for was the Youngsters’ Stakes, of 200 sovs., over a distance of five furlongs. The race was run at The Curragh in Ireland, and attracted 10 runners, Ever True winning by two lengths. Mr. Standfast, who is by Buchan from Cinna, and therefore a half-brother to Beau Pere and Gay Shield, was only imported to New Zealand a very short time ago. He is a most impressive looking stallion. Some judges consider he is one of the finest individuals yet imported to the Dominion. He is now the property of a Waikato syndicate headed by the well-known racing man and breeder, Mr. Martin H. Tims, of To Awamutu. Mr. Standfast will do stud duty in New Zealand for the first time next season. Already a number of noted brood mares owned in both the South and North Islands have been booked to him. Mr. Standfast is the fourth son of Cinna to be imported to New Zealand

Beau Pere, who is now standing at the St. Aubin’s stud in New South Waies, at a fee of 200 guineas, is tc be visited by seven noted brood mares from the Dominion. These include Mr. F. Armstrong’s Entreaty, the tiair of Phar Lap; Mr. H. D. Greenwood’s Cymene, the dam of Cylinder: Messrs. t! J. and P. A. O’Neill’s Zarine, the dam of Lowonberg, and the half-sistei to the latter Derby winner in Trim, ; daughter of Lackham; Mr. R. T Reid’s Comedienne, the dam of the Wellington Cup winner, Royal Artist, anud Mr. W. Higgins’ Joy Bird (imp.), and another mare that is being mv. ported from England on Mr. Higgins’ behalf.
