NORTH ROAD BLOCKED

SLIPS IN WAIMANA GORGE NO WAIOEKA TROUBLE The main north road was blocked in the Waimana Gorge last night, and the mail from Gisborne to Auckland missed the connection, but is expected to reach Auckland to-morrow morning in time for the morning delivery by catching the 1 p.m. train today and connecting with the Limited express. The blockage occurred at about 8 o'clock last night. The late service car got through, but the mail truck was blocked on the southward journey, and the mails carried from Gisborne will not reach here until 8 o'clock thia evening. The slips were oxpected to be cleared by mid-day to-day. Annough heavy rain fell in the southern part of the Bay of Plenty yesterday and last night, no blockage occurred in the Waioeka Valley, which was reported to-day by the Automobile Association's patrol, Mr. D. M. McGregor, to be in good order. • INCONVENIENCE CAUSED SOUTH HIGHWAY CROSSING Much inconvenience is being caused to motorists on the main highway just south of Muriwai. The crossing of the Wairakaia Stream at Faulkner's Reserve, where flooding occurred on Saturday, must be made with caution. The stream bed has been scoured out into holes so that some difficulty is being experienced. During the last three days a few cars and lorries have been stuck in the for® and have been towed out.
