PERFECT 'PHONE BELL

DEVELOPMENT IN BRITAIN PLEASING NOTE LONDON, Oct. 12. After two years of research, British telephone authorities have announced finally that they have evolved "the perfect telephone bell." A jury of musicians was especially engaged" to select the bell, which is described as having a pleasing note of medium pitch, with average volume "which can be heard well, but which will never make the nervous subscriber jump." The bell will be heard for the first time on January 1 next, when the 1938 telephone will make its appearance. Another new feature will be a small drawer in the base ©t the instrument in which may be kept a pad for making notes or scratching curious designs

The London Telephone Research Department has a robot machine which hurls telephone ear-pieces about to test them for strength against the bad-tempered subscriber.
