"BEST YEAR TO DATE"

POVERTY BAY GOLF CLUB SEASON AT AWAPUNI ' GOOD CREDIT BALANCE A highly satisfactory financial position was shown last evening at the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Golf Club and the members present showed enthusiastic interest, which should tend towards another successful year's operations.

The captain of the club, Mr. W. R. B. Willock, who was chairman, moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet. The motion was seconded by Dr. F. Kahlenberg and carried.

In connection with the balance sheet,'-Mr: C. H; Bull referred to the good financial position, there being a credit of £l7l over the year's working. It was the best year the club had had and the rise could be attributed to the increasing of the sub-scriptiott.-iEnti>ance--'-fe* v "-and green fees were also in excess of the previous year. The expenditure was £260 up on last season, mainly on account of the increase in maintenance costs and wages of employees. The club had art excellent plant and with £BO or £IOO going to the special fund each year he thought there should be no reason for the plant to deteriorate. The motion was carried. Election of Officers

Officers for the ensuing season were elected as follows:—President, Mr. E. M. Hutchinson; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. H.' Bull, F. W. Nolan and G. M. Dodgshun; club captain, Dr. F. Kahlenberg; committee, Messrs. F. Fenwick, W. M. Jenkins. A. W. Harper, K. F. Jones, J. O. Musgrave and W. R. B. Willock; company's nominees, Messrs. C. O. Hansen and G. W. Willock; hon. secretary, Mr. R. W. J. Edwards; hon. treasurer, Mr. C. H. Bull; hon. auditor, Mr. Ralph Dobson. In complimenting the members of the committee on the past season, Mr. Willock said they had worked well together and had made his duties comparatively easy. Appreciation of the work and time the retiring captain had given to his duties was voiced by Dr. Kahlenberg, who said that those duties were increasing each year as more outside clubs were visiting the links. He also congratulated the ladies' entertainment committee on the manner in which it had assisted during interclub visits.

Important Fixtures

The condition of the links was improving year by year and several important fixtures were to be played on the course. The links were proving to be an. advertisement to the town. There would be the professionals' tournament in February and the Licensed Victuallers Association also had asked permission to be able to play their tournament on the course during the season. • It was decided, on the motion of Mr. R. E. Gambrill, seconded by Mr. F. Fenwick, to abolish the branding Of balls on the point that the system was now out of control. A vote of thanks was accorded to the press for its assistance during the season, and to the greenkeeper and his staff for the excellent work they had carried out in the improvements to the links. The criticism that was sometimes levelled at the committee on topics such as the watering and top-dressing of the links was mentioned by Dr. Kahlenberg. In regard to top-dressing, the committee always got an opinion from someone in a position to give them the best advice, while the committee also realised that water was wanted and would do its best to have the course reticulated at a reasonable cost as soon as possible.
