ERECTION OF HOUSES
BIG N.S.W. ADVANCES UP TO JOO,OOO HOMES PERIOD OF TEN YEARS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 9, 1.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 9. Advances totalling £10,000,000 to building societies for house erection were announced by the Premier of New South Wales, Mr. B. S. B. Stevens, . during the second reading of the Housing Improvement Bill in the Assembly.
This total of funds, now"made available by the banks, assurance societies and other financial institutions, might be doubled or even trebled within a few years, added Mr. Stevens. The Government's housing policy envisaged 100,000 new homes in the next 10 years.
The Government's scheme would ensure steady employment for 80,000 workers in the building trades.
