GISBORNE CRICKETER
PROGRESS IN DUNEDIN MR. G. J. ROBERTSON LEADER OF. CLUB TEAM A Gisborne man who was well known in cricket circles while in Gisborne, Mr G. J. Robertson, son of Mr and Mrs D. G. Robertson Russed street, Gisborne, has definitely made his mark in the Dunedin sp t world, though this is only his second season in grade cricket in that city While stationed in Gisborne Mr Robertson was prominently associated with the Civil Service, Whataupoko, and Marist clubs and is now deputy captain and selector of the Dunedin Cricket Club and captain of the senioi team of that club. In the opening day’s matches in Dunedhi the Dunedin club met last season’s premiers, Carisbrook A, and, batting first, put 304 on the board foi the loss of seven wickets. The wicket was very easy and the outfield haid and fast. Commenting on the match, a Dunedin sporting writer said that Robertson opened with Holley, and the former started carefully, his tactics being thoroughly justified for he played himself in and paved the way for the others who followed. Robertson got to within two of his century before he was dismissed by a fine catch by Caradus off Carter. His was a real eaotain’s knock, and he batted for three'hours, waiting for the loose ones to hit. Under Robertson’s leadership Dunedin should have a much better season, for besides being one of Otago s outstanding all-rounders this player is a real enthusiast and should get the best out of his team.
