TRIPLING STRENGTH
ROYAL AIR FORCE BRITAIN’S BIG TASK (British Official Wireless./ Reed. 12.20 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 12. “The foreign policy and the defence policy work hand in hand for a similar aim-—peace,” declared the Secretary for Air, Viscount Swinton, speaking of the expansion of the Royal Air [Force. The programme to bring it up to something like three times its previous strength involved, he said, a task unparalleled in peace time. He mentioned that recruits were coming from every part of the British commonwealth to join the Royal Air Force.
SERVICE COMMISSIONS DOMINION SELECTIONS PERIODS OF. TRAINING (Par Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The followinf candidates have been selected for short-service commissions in the Royal Air Force and will leave for England on December 1: A. S. Dind (Christchurch), F. E. Eustace (Wellington), J. D. Farmer (Trentham), A. Frame (Oamaru), C. R. Frankish (Wanganui), W. B. Grieves, C L. R. Heywood, R. H. Land, G. W. Sutton, and E. V. Sendel (Auckland), B. L. G. Harker (Wairoa), and A. S. Luxmoorc (Fcilding). The following have been selected for short-service commissions in the R.A.F., and the R.N.Z.A.F., and will undergo eight months of preliminary training in New Zealand, eight then to be sent to England and four to be retained for the R.N.Z.A.F.: W. F. Dawson (Balclutha), T. M. De Lange, W. S. Rea, and F. D. Smith (Auckland), R. W. Gair (Napier), T. F. Gill, and S. G. Quill (Wellington), L. H. Higgins, and L. G. Lilly (Dun-edin),-B. I. C. Jones (Eltham), R. D. Max (Nelson), and J. D. Murphy (Riverlea).
