PIG CLUB ORGANISATION

FIRST STAGE REACHED POVERTY BAY ACTIVITY PLANS FOR BAY OF PLENTY The pig club movement in the Gisborne, Coast and Wairoa districts has reached a stage in its development when a spell must be taken while organisation work proceeds at the other end of the district with which Gisborne is associated. The organiser for the Bay of. PlentyPoverty Bay Pig Council, Mr. D. G. Beattie. left Gisborne to-day for VVhakatane to attend a meeting of the council, and will remain there for some weeks to put the organisation on a proper footing in the Bay of Plenty. Although the headquarters of the Bay of Plenty-Poverty Bay district are in Whakatane, there are no clubs yet. on the other side of the range. There should be much scope for clubs there, as there are large dairying districts in the Opotiki, Rangitaike Plains and Oporiau Valley areas, and a large number of clubs are expected to be' formed, or at least the groundwork of the movement should be built up by the organiser's visit during the next few weeks. Following his Bay of Plenty campaign, Mr. Beattie will go on to the Waikato to attend a conference of supervisors at Hamilton. While there he will take the opportunity of inspecting a number of sows selected for Gisborne district clubs by Mr. H. M. Picrsen. These pigs are being held at Ruakura pending Mr. Beattie's final approval. A number of clubs which had ordered sows had expected them to arrive in time for the Show, but as Mr. Beattie was aranging to visit Hamilton it was decided to keep them at Ruakura until his visit, for he was more conversant with the requirements of the individual clubs.
