THE WEATHER To-day's North Island iteport Blue skies were reported this morning at Wellington and north of Gisborne. but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light to moderate southerly breezes were general. The barometer showed little movement. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland 58 degrees, Tauranga GO. Opotiki 59, East Cape and Gisborne s(i, Napier 53. and Wellington 50. Hough seas were reported between Cape Campbell and Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night's Forecast A shallow depression is passing away eastwards and an anticyclone, with its centre near Tasmania, now extends across the south Tasman on to the South Island. A shallow depression is located over the northwest portion of the Tasman. The forecast is lor southerly to southeasterly winds, light to moderate generally at first, but freshening and becoming strong In some exposed positions, more especially in eastern; districts and about Cook Strait. Seas in'New Zealand waters will be rather rough in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas, elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising somewhat soinh of East Cape. In the eastern Tasman there will be moderate to fresh winds, between east and south-east, prevailing, with moderate to ,rather rough seas. The weather will be fine on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere changeable, with scattered and mainly light rains, more especially in districts with an easterly aspect and the northern portion of Ihe Norlh Island. Temperatures will be cold.
