3000 SHOW ENTRIES

SLIGHT DROP PROBABLE SIIEEP, PIGS AND DOGS UP FLEECE ALSO HIGHER Entries for the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association’s annual Show, to be held on October 26 and 27, will total approximately 3000, according to present indications. This will be slightly lower than the total of 3209 received last year, but will be the fourth largest total ever received by the association. The record year was in 1934, when 3261 entries were received, while the only other occasion, apart from last year, to exced 3000, was in 1933, when 3144 entries were listed. In 1935, the total fell to 2756. After progress tallies had been made last night, the horse entries were slightly down, when compared with the corresponding stage last year, and cattle were also a little lower. Poultry, cooking and preserves and sundry competitions were also slightly below their various totals of last year. On the other hand, pigs have shown a large increase, sheep and fleece a small improvement, and dogs also are slightly up. There is practically no change in the numbers in the produce and needlework sections.

More entries have yet to be accounted for. Shearing entries do not close until next Tuesday, and dog trials may be entered for up to the Saturday before the Show, while post entries are received for judging competitions, so that the final tally will not be available until after the Show.

It will be a day or two yet before the exact position of sections for which entries already have closed will be known. The tabulation and indexing of those already received is now proceeding, and the secretary, Mr. W. E. Chamberlain, stated to-day that his staff is working under pressure to complete this section of their work as expeditiously as possible.
