MAJESTIC THEATRE PAT O'BRIEN IN “THE GREAT O’MALLEY” AND “TWO HEARTS IN HARMONY” That over-popular Irish film star. Pat O’Brien, has the title role in “The Great O’Malley,” which opened at the* Majestic Theatre to-day. Pat’s a policeman this time. He's Officer O’Malley, a tough, hard-boiled policeman who cannot sec beyond his rule book until a little crippled girl and a lovely school teacher humanise him. An excellent film, “Two Hearts in Harmony” (Bernice Claire and George Curzon) will be the second attraction. The film is a novel and exceedingly well-acted picture, and is filled with* very tuneful songs. It is a comedy with a pleasant romantic interest, and a thoroughly entertaining and unusual plot. Friday: George Formby in “Feather Your Nest”— The box plans are now open for “Feather Your Nest," starring the English comedian, George Formby. This is described as being even funnier than his previous comedies, “No Limit” and “Keep Your Seats, Please.” The second feature will be “California Straight Ahead.

KING’S THEATRE "RAINBOW ON THE RIVER": LAST NIGHT “Rainbow on the River," the film which will conclude a return season at the King’s Theatre to-night, is one of the most popular screen productions seen in Gisborne. The pi incipal attraction of the film is the singing of Bobby Breen, whose exceptional voice lias given pleasure to thousands of picturegoers, but in addition to the singing the picture has the merits of having a good story and a capable cast of actors. In every way it is a thoroughly entci - taming film, arid one that needs little recommendation to attract large audiences. The story is set in the period immediately after the American Civil War To-morrow: “There Goes M.v Girl A murder hoax staged at a wedding by a conniving city editor, to prevent his pretty ace reporter from marrying a rival reporter, is one ol the features of “There Goes My Girl,” which presents Gene Raymond and Ann Sothern as co-stars, and which will start at the King’s Theatre to-morrow. Appearing as romantic leads in their fourth picture, Miss Sothern and Raymond are seen in more highly dramatic roles than they have had in their previous co-starring screen plays, which have been light comedies. A fine array of “shorts” has been chosen to accompany “There Goes My Girl," including a musical, a travelogue, and a sports thrill.

REGENT THEATRE “PAGLIACCI’’ PREMIERE TO-DAY To-day the curtain opens on the premiere performance in Gisborne of tlie first opera that has been adapted for the talking screen “Pagliacci” is very well known, and its tuneful melodies are loved ail over the world. Richard Tauber lias been ideally selected for the lead, and scores a personal triumph in this production. The acting is maintained on a high level with outstanding performances from Steffi Duna, Diana Napier and Esmond Knight. Full credit must be given to Max Schach, the producer, for making one ol he most beautiful British pictures o the year. The closing scenes are filmed in gorgeous colour photography b> the new Chemicolour process, winch strikingly emphasises the dramatic, beauty of the tragedy. Leoncavallos beautiful opera will provide a musieal treat that will long bo remembered In Gisborne. Excellent supporting fealurettes complete a splendid piogramme. _
