The proposal to construct an obelisk on the summit of One Tree Hill in memory of Sir John Logan Campbell was mentioned by Mr. N. B. Body in an address to the Auckland Historical Society. Sir John left a sum of money in his will toward such an obelisk, and tiic money became available in 1925. Mr. Body stated that the trustees hoped to have the obelisk completed, before the centenary celebrations in 1940..
