CRIPPLED CHILDREN
SOCIETY'S LOCAL BEANCH 2ND ANNUAL MEETING ENSUING YEAR'S DEMANDS At the second annual meeting cf the Gisbome branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society, held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Fitzherbert street, last evening, Mr. F. W. Nolan presided .over a small attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report, already published in the Herald, and the balance-sheet, the chairman mentioned that the expenditure during the year just past was relatively light. However, as indicated in the report, there was likely to be a considerable number of calls on the funds in hand during the ensuing year, chiefly as a result-of the infantile paralysis epidemic. In speaking of the different cases of crippled children in the district, Mr. Nolan said that the committee had been able to visit most of them, except for one or two in the outlying districts. In some instances the society had been able to provide additional mechanical devices and to pay for the repairing of surgical boots and appliances. Referring to the case of a cripple girl at Manutuke, the chairman said the committee was waiting on a report from Dr. R. J. B. Hall. It was hoped to bring her into town so that ' she might have the benefit, of educational facilities. A child from Bartlett's was receiving treatment at the Auckland Hospital and on his return the society might be able to render assistance." There were a number of cases' receiving, treatment the result of which was not known at present, but there would certainly be some requiring the attention of the society. Funds Amounting' to £470 The secretary, ' Mr. Mainland L. Foster, mentioned that the matriculation fees had been paid by the society for a' crippled young man, who, on passing the ' examination, had been found a position in the Native Department. Mr. Foster also announced that as a result of additional donations thai had just come to . hand the local branch, had funds amounting to £470 in hand. Mr. R. Maddock-seconded the adoption of the annual report and balancesheet, and the motion was carried unanimously. The election of ■ officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President; Mr.'F,;,.W." Nolan; vice-president, Mr. Howard Kenway; hon. secretary, Mr. Mainland L. Foster; hon. auditors. Messrs.
