According to statistics released by Union Airways in Wellington for the two weeks which ended on July 10, passenger business has been most satisfactory over the WellingtonAuckland air route, the number of passengers, 241, equalling 53.9 per cent of the carrying capacity of the aeroplanes. Business has also been satisfactory on the Palmcrston NorthDunedin route, the number of passengers for the same two weeks being 40.9 per cent of the carrying capacity, or 243 passengers.

An elderly man, Mr. George Hyland, of Waerenga-a-hika, was admitted to the Cook Hospital yesterday suffering from a broken leg. Mr. Hyland, who despite his years, is remarkably active, was cutting a branch from a tree. Just after he had severed the branch, it sprang back and pinned his leg. Fortunately help was at hand and the injured man was immediately taken to hospital. This morning he was reported to be fairly comfortable.
