SHOOTING AT BISLEY
AUSTRALIANS' SUCCESS
KOLAPORE CUP VICTORY
(Reed. July 16, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 15.
Australia won the Kolapore Cup Empire rifle shooting contest with a score of 367 at 600yds. and an aggregate score of 1121, followed by Guernsey, 1114; Canada, 1110; the Mother Country, 1108 India, 1095; and Jersey, 1076.
Immediately the Australian win was announced, Merrett was overwhelmed with congratulations by other team captains and many prominent shooting officials, including the septuagenarian, Lord Cottesloe, president of the National Rifle Association, who is still competing at Bisley. Merrett, interviewed by the Australian Associated Press, said he hoped that the success would' influence the Commonwealth to remember the promise that a team should visit Bisley every four years. Surely, if the isolated Falkland Islands could send a team regularly it showed the importance of Bisley to rifle shooting in the outposts of the Empire. Among the competitors was Woods, who coached the Oxford University eight which beat Cambridge under Kolapore Cup conditions, Oxford scoring 1107. Woods to-day scored 47, 47, and 45.
The Australian, P. M. Gillies, won the Northland competition with a total of 83.
