VALUABLE EXPERIENCE

ALL BLACK TRIAL GAMES A McANENEY RETURNS Though he realised that he would have to play a really outstanding game of Rugby to secure a chance in the finals of the trials for the All Black selection, A. McAneney, who returned to Gisborne last evening from Wellington, is confident that the experience of playing outside of men with such good standing in the Rugby, world will benefit his game to a large extent.

During his stay in Wellington for the trial games, McAneney was included in three matches on the Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday, and with this experience and youth on his side considers that his chance might yet come to wear the representative jersey for New Zealand. He has had enough of Rugby for the week and will not be taking the field with the Poverty Bay representatives at Wai-o-matatini when they meet the East Coast team to-morrow.

The chances of a winger under the International rules were greatly reduced in class Rugby because the fullbacks made sure of their line-kicking. There were few chances of the ball not going into touch compared with the bounce-out rule and under those conditions the wingers did not often have the opportunity to seize a ball that had failed to reach touch from a clearing kick.

Discussing the New Zealand side selection, he was of the opinion that the selectors had made a wise choice in the team to meet the rest of New , Zealand in the final trial to-morrow, but could not understand why they had dropped Tori Reid from the pack of the New Zealand side.

After seeing the performances of the men at the trials, he expected the All Blacks to win the last two tests against the Springboks. He thought that the South Africans might shade the New Zealanders in the first test on account of a possible lack of combination among the All Blacks.
