WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
WHARERATA MEETING On Wednesday the Wharerata Women's Institute held its monthly meeting in the Wharerata Hall. A cheerful open fire lent a cosiness to the surroundings, and vases of bronze arctotis and scarlet alonsoa gave cheerfulness to an otherwise cold and bleak day.
Mrs. W. McGuinness opened the gardening circle with a roll call, "A few don'ts for the garden." The competition, a Victorian posy, brought forward only one entry, by Mrs. W. McGuinness. A lengthy article on the "Propagation of Roses" was much appreciated. At the conclusion of the gardening circle meeting luncheon was served, and members spent a happy interval •mt.il the general meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. G. B. McAra. ine mono, "Well begun is half done," was read, and a welcome given to the visitors, Mrs. A. M. Jones and Miss J. Bushnell.
The secretary, Mrs. B. Jones, read an interesting letter from Mrs. A. N. West who is on a holiday tour of the East. A report on her visit as delegate to the Poverty Bay federation meeting was given by Mrs. D. Clark, being followed by a discussion on the proposed Women's Rest Room in Gisborne. It was decided to hold "bring and buy" sales tables in aid of the fund. The roll-call was What I would do if I won a large sum ol money," and the amusement, an A.B.C. competition, was won by Miss J. Bushnell.
Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. O. Swarbrick and Mrs C Cook, ending a happy day.
