REORGANISATION PLANNED

THE FLAX INDUSTRY AID BY GOVERNMENT MEETING OF GROWERS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. In pursuance of the policy of the Government of obtaining the cooperation of those actively engaged in an industry which the Bureau of Industry is assisting to reorganise, a meeting of flaxmitlers and growers was held at Foxton to-day. AIT features of the plan of reorganisation'were explained by two members of the Bureau of Industry. The plan was well received and appreciation was expressed of the practical assistance to be given by the Gavernment towards the reorganisation and improvement of this once-important industry. Representatives present were particularly interested in the proposals for the setting up of an industrial committee as provided for by the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936, from a list of persons nominated by themselves, which committee would be charged with the administration of the plan, the control of the industry thus being from within its own ranks, assisted' by. three 'Government representatives..'

The meeting appointed a committee to submit the names and generally assist in implementing the plan. The Industrial Efficiency Act requires the consent of 50 per cent of the principals engaged in the industry before any plan can be put into effect. Voting papers have been circulated to all flaxgrowers and millers in the Dominion, and must be returned not later than July 28.
