TE KARAKA NEWS
GIFT EVENING (Herald Correspondent.) The Parish Hall, Te Karaka, presented a gay scene on Wednesday evening, when over 100 people gathered to tender their good wishes ;o Miss Rene Mills, whose marriage to Mr. K. Castell Spence takes place next week. Organised by Mrs. W. G. Keane, assisted by a band of willing helpers, it was a very happy function, testify ing to the widespread popularity of the young couple. The dance music was provided by Misses Ruru and Coates and Messrs. Lennane and Richmond, Mr. A. Buckingham being a very efficient M.C. Much appreciated vocal items were rendered by Miss K. Morris, and a novel competition, won by Miss J. Sanders, caused much amusement. Community singing, led by Mr. T. M. Askew, with Miss Ruru at the piano, was thoroughly enjoyed by all. After a dainty supper had been served, the guest of honour, assisted by her sister, Miss Rosie Mills, opened the pile of gift parcels, which contained a wonderful array of presents. Miss Mills and Mr. Spence both returned thanks and expressed their deep appreciation of the kindly thoughts of their friends, and the gathering closed with the singing of "Auld Lan£ Syne."
