LONG HOP ENDS

ACROSS TOP OF WORLD RUSSIA TO CALIFORNIA SOVIET AIRMEN LAND ANXIETY RELIEVED (Elec. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 15, 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 14. The Russian flyers, Michael Gromov, A. Yumashev, and S. Daniline, who have flown from Russia to the United States via the Arctic Circle, were reported over San Francisco about 8.30 p.m., New Zealand time, when their wireless message broke off in the middle of a sentence. The fact that there was no word for the next three hours induced the Soviet Consul to send up a plane to search around Oakland.

A later message, however, stated that the Soviet flyers had landed 90 miles east of Los Angeles.

Earlier reports received during the flight stated that the Russians were attempting to extend the flight to San Diego. It was then believed that the distance record had been broken approximately.

It was suggested that they might not stop at San Francisco, but might attempt to -each Los Angeles or Mexico. They later wirelessed that they expected to land at Oakland. The visibility was poor and the ceiling low throughout California.
