INTOXICATION CHARGE

LORRY DRIVER IN COURT REMAND TILL TUESDAY A driver of a motor lorry who met with an accident last night was charged before Mr. C. Blackburn, J.P., in the Police Court to-day with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle and also with negligent driving in Stanley road. He was remanded until Tuesday.

Senior-Sergeant J. F. H. Macnamara asked for a remand until next Tuesday. He said that the accused was arrested at 6.40 p.m. yesterday, and had been liberated on bail.

Mr. J. S. W’auchop, who appeared for the accused, said that the case would be defended, and asked that the presiding justice should follow the precedent more or less established by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in suppressing names at the preliminary hearings. An order was made for the suppression of the accused’s name in the meantime, and he was remanded to appear next Tuesday.
