A Director at Work
UXACTLY what does a colour directs tor do? To answer that question let us take a look at Mrs. Kalmus at work in her office at the Denham studios, and later accompany her'on to the set. In front of her lies a script, typed on a large printed form, which is not only a scenario of words and actions, but also of colour, camera, and timing instructions, camera filter, total negative used, prints, colour sets, shooting dates, camera report date, developing date, and other particulars. In the preparation of a picture, the script is read and a colour chart prepared for the entire production; each scene sequence, and character being considered. This chart may be compared to a musical score, and amplifies the picture in a similar manner. The preparation of this chart calls . very careful and judicious work.
