LOAN OF £40,000
TAURANGA COUNTY 190 MILES OF SEALING The Tauranga County Council has decided to give notice of its intention to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction to raise a loan of £40,000 for sealing 190 miles of by-roads and main highways. The engineer, Mr. A. H. Benham, presented a special report on a proposal for bituminous sealing of 149 miles of by-roads and 41 miles of main highways, making a total of 190 miles. Assuming that Government subsidies would be available, the amount to be raised by loan would be £40,000. Councillors expressed approval of the engineer’s report,
It was decided that a remit be forwarded to the counties’ conference to the effect that tiie Government be requested to establish at the Reserve Bank what would be known as the local body accommodation account, on tiie lines of the daffy account, thus making it possible for county councils to have the necessary credit for constructive and legitimate works without having to foot a high interest bill as in the past.
