MATAWAI NEWS

(Rural <1 Correspondent.) At the invitation of the Mata wo i R.S.A., a meeting was held at Mrs. A. Pritchard’s residence on Saturday evening. Representatives from the Matawai Dog Trial Club, the MatawaiMotu R.S.A., the Matawai Sports Club, and the Rakauroa and Matawai Women’s Institutes were present. Mr. G. O. Donovan was in the chair. It was decided to hold a social and dance in the Matawai Hall on July 23 to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Harding, who are leaving the district at the end of this month.

Mr. and Mrs. T. Osborne. Tangoio, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Smith, Matawai.—Miss Nell Clark, Matawai, is spending a few days at Te Karaka. On Tuesday,' August 3, Mr. A. G. Hultquist, M.P. for the Bay of Plenty electorate, will hold a meeting in the Matawai Public Hall. At the conclusion of his address, Mr. Hultquist hopes to .form a local branch of the Labour Party. Mr. and Mrs. F. Greatbatch and family, who have been residents of the district for many years, will be greatly missed by their many friends and the business community of Matawai when they move to Puha to take up a farm there, which they have recently acquired. Mr. Greatbatch has been a member of the Matawai School Committee for the past two years, and his sons have taken prominent parts in all school sport. Mrs. Greatbatch has always assisted with anything of benefit to the district, particularly where it concerned children.
