Who Pays—Guarantee Prices?
Sir, —“Struggling Farmer’s” letter is very illuminating. He only considers ■ one section, namely, the dairy farmer. He ends up as follows: “If the Government was generous enough to give us 5s for butterfat, most of us would still sing out for more.” Ye Gods! He talks of Government generosity! Can't he see that it is the taxpayers money, not the Government’s. If a price is paid for commandeered butter over and above the market rate we, who are not dairy farmers, are paying the loss, not the Government. It is easy to mulct the taxpayer and be generous at his expense. — me..
