MISHAP IN SHOP

WOMAN’S THIGHS BROKEN INJURIES PROVE FATAL (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. An accident of an unusual type, which occured in a city shop on May 28, was the subject of an inquiry at the inquest into the death, on June 28, of Mrs. Florence May Richmond, aged 64, of Ponsonby, which was held before the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt. A shop assistant said that Mrs. Richmond fell after colliding with another customer, who had turned around sharply. The man who collided with her, assisted in lifting her from the floor and while doing so apologised for knocking her over. On being assured that a doctor had been sent for and that he could do nothing more, the man left the shop. Witness did not know his name and address. Dr. Morris said that when the deceased was admitted to hospital it was found that both her thighs were broken and that she was suffering from severe shock. She was also suffering from incipient heart trouble for which she had to be treated. She failed to rally to the treatment, and a few days before her death developed broncho-pneumonia. In witness’ opinion, death was due to bronchopneumonia, the other causes being shock from the accident and the disordered heart action.

A verdict in accordance with medical testimony, was given by the coroner.
