INFANTILE PARALYSIS

CASES IN MELBOURNE UNUSUAL FEATURES MELBOURNE, July 13. Another case of infantile paralysis was reported in Melbourne to-day. There are two more suspects from the same area as the previous cases. The chairman of the Health Commission, Dr. Featonby, said the outbreak was extraordinary in that it was confined to one small area. The first known centre of infection was the Ormond State School. Another unusual aspect of the outbreak was the occurrence of three cases in one family and two cases in another. All the patients and suspects had been isolated. The closing of the schools would not be helpful, but it was unofficially applied by the action of the parents keeping their children at home. Asked whether the outbreak had any connection with New Zealand, Dr. Featonby said there were no means of detecting carriers.
