A message from Salt Lake City says that Hyram Dempsey, aged 81 years, the father of Jack Dempsey, the former boxing heavyweight champion of the world, has been arrested on a charge of fighting. It is alleged that he punched an elderly woman during a melee after an argument which ended in a general fight. Another man was taken to hospital.
better than G 5 sec. The former looks in A.l racing condition. Daryll (L. Berry), giving away about a stone to Oha (J. Walsh), on the plough, was a couple of lengths ahead in 51see. —A fairly good gallop for a novice.
Top Hat (Callinan) and Hunting Cat (Atkins) were given a working gallop over six furlongs, the last five taking G9sec. Passion Fruit (H. Callinan) was always going better than Helios (Atkins) in their six-furlong encounter in 1.20. Passion Fruit went very well, and will have to be considered at the week-end. Pukehou (J. Walsh) was no use to Sir Nigel (S. Fanning) over six furlongs in 1.19, about the best time of the morning on this track. Mona Lisa (S. Fanning) was too good for the full brother to Sir Nigel (J. Walsh) in the mediocre time of 70sec. for five furlongs.
