Women’s Institutes
Ruakituri Meeting There was an average attendance at the meeting of the Ruakituri Women's Institute last Saturday. Mrs. Berry, who was in the chair, welcomed the visitors. Mrs. Morice read an interesting article from Home and Country. Mrs. Berry spoke to the Golden Thread, giving a very enlightening lecture about the beauties and history of New Plymouth. The roll call, “What to do when unexpected guests arrive,” was well responded to, but brought no very original suggestions; most people thought their guests would be coming for a meal. Mrs. Morice sang two delightful solos, “Sincerity” and “Absence," which were much appreciated. Mrs. Gavin ably demonstrated the way to-make puff pastry. There were only a few entries for the competition, cut' wool flower embroidery, Miss L. Spence winning with a humpty.
Mrs. Dahm and Mrs. Mairs were the hostesses, serving a delicious afternoon tea. Their hints were that if one rubs soap into the hands before stove cleaning or gardening, the hands
will not stain, also, mix a little mustard and salt with coffee to improve the flavour. After community singing the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
