WAIMATA NEWS

DOG TRIALS .CLUB (Herald Correspondent.) The final meeting of the club in connection with the Waimata dog trials, which took place in March, was held last week-end. Commenting on the big profit shown, the chairman, Mr. L. Newman, said it was easily seen from the balance-sheet that the receipts from entries and membership fees, in spite 'of big entries, would not balance the prize-money expenses incurred. “This 1 am pointing out," he continued, "to show how deeply we are indebted to the ladies, who for three days served meals, and by making a small charge, showed a handsome profit; and also on the evening of the last day of the trials conducted a dance, which was a huge success,

providing good entertainment for the young folk. We are fortunate this year in receiving such generous support from settlers, who gave cash donations, cups, and many special prizes; and also the business people, who gave a large number of special prizes. We are grateful to Mr. Tombleson for the use of his grounds, to Mr. J. C. Mazengarb for the sheep, and all those who helped to make the trials such a success, and show such a wonderful balance-sheet.” Those present were Messrs. E. J. Robinson, secretary, L. Newman, L. Monck, P. Greaves, E. Cook, B. Smith, W. Newman, J. C. Mazengarb, B. Mullooly, K. Greaves, and P. Brennan.
